Abstract:

Cellular Automata have been around for more than 50 years now. Stephen Wolfram’s 2003 book “A New Kind of Science” has rekindled interest in these simple grids that follow elementary rules but result in very complex behavior. This talk will provide a brief history of the field, an overview of the kinds of research being done, and will include some demos of tools and techniques for working with one and two-dimensional CAs.
